Shopping for Mom – Research predicts more Mother’s Day spending

While we generally write about Mom as the household buyer-in-chief, we are turning the tables in this post.
The National Retail Federation (NRF) just released the results of a survey on projected spending for Mother’s Day 2010. And NRF is predicting the average spend for Mother’s Day gifts will be $126.90 in 2010, an increase of 2.4% of last year.
Moms will rack up on:
- Cards – 97%
- Flowers – 70%
- Gift cards – 55%
- Clothing – 36%
- Jewelry – 25%
- Books – 22%
- Spa Services – 15%
- Electronics – 12%
- Candy – 5%
Dads and kids will spend a total of $14.6 billion, a 3.5% increase from 2009 at:
- Specialty retailers (including florists) – 45%
- Discount retailers – 38%
- Department stores – 35%
- Online retailers – 25%
- Catalog retailers – 20%
